Job description

The Compliance, Standards, and Integrity (CSI) team at Google is dedicated to creating robust, risk-informed strategies and solutions for managing employment-related risks effectively. We aim to set industry standards for mitigating HR and workforce data risks, applying a unique "Google lens" to ensure compliance and alignment with our operational needs and culture. Within CSI, we drive global initiatives focused on workforce data security, privacy, labor and employment compliance, and the development of essential workplace policies and training programs.

As a Workforce Data Privacy Manager, you will spearhead the advancement of Google’s workforce data compliance and privacy programs. You will be instrumental in championing "Privacy by Design," ensuring that People Operations’ digital transformation, especially the integration of AI solutions, is conducted responsibly, ethically, and in accordance with global regulations. You will act as a vital link between People Operations, HR Engineering, and Google's wider privacy and compliance ecosystem, including Legal and Privacy teams. Your role involves translating the complexities of the evolving regulatory landscape into scalable, risk-mitigating strategies to safeguard our applicants, candidates, and employees worldwide. By identifying potential vulnerabilities and providing expert governance, you will directly contribute to the successful launch of advanced, AI-driven user experiences.

Responsibilities

Design and implement comprehensive workforce privacy strategies, integrating "Privacy by Design" principles into people operations roadmaps and AI-powered user journeys.

Analyze evolving global regulations, such as GDPR and the EU AI Act, and update internal policies and HR frameworks to ensure seamless compliance and mitigate risks across diverse operational environments.

Manage complex, high-impact global privacy initiatives, overseeing timelines, addressing cross-functional risks, and using key performance indicators to monitor program health and ensure strategic goal achievement.

Serve as the primary point of contact for high-priority privacy escalations and regulatory inquiries, conducting thorough cross-functional investigations to resolve complex issues with speed and transparency.

Facilitate collaboration between Legal, Compliance, and HR Engineering to harmonize data management strategies and develop communication plans that keep leadership informed of critical risks and mitigation approaches.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is required, alongside a minimum of 10 years of experience in privacy, compliance, risk management, or legal fields.

Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree in Law, Public Policy, Data Privacy, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience. Professional privacy certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, or CISA are advantageous. Experience working with workforce/HR data or global employee populations, and providing privacy guidance for AI/Machine Learning products, is also highly valued. The ability to translate intricate legal requirements into actionable technical specifications and scalable operational workflows is essential for success in this role.
