Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) offers a modern approach to IT Operations by integrating software engineering principles into service delivery. This methodology aims to reduce IT risks, enhance business resilience, ensure predictability and reliability, and optimize IT infrastructure and operational costs.
As an SRE Architect/Consultant, you will be instrumental in shaping the SRE roadmap for enterprises. You will also lead the implementation of various SRE solutions across different business units.
Furthermore, you will assess the SRE maturity of IT organizations, providing strategic guidance and a clear roadmap to achieve advanced maturity levels.
Key responsibilities include defining Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Objectives (SLOs), and Indicators (SLIs) for products and services. You will engineer resilient design and implementation practices into solutions throughout their lifecycle.
This role involves designing and implementing observability solutions to effectively track, report, and measure SLA adherence. A significant part of the job is engineering out manual effort (toil) by developing automated processes and services, such as automated system management and CI/CD improvements.
Optimization of IT infrastructure and operational costs through FinOps practices is also a core component of this position.
This role requires a strong foundation in software product engineering principles, processes, and systems, with over 12 years of experience. Hands-on expertise in Java/J2EE, web servers (Apache Tomcat or IBM HTTP Server), application servers (Tomcat/WebSphere), and major RDBMS like Oracle is essential.
Proficiency with CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, Ansible) is required. Experience with cloud technologies (AWS/Azure/GCP) and containerization/orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift) along with their reliability tools (Azure AppInsight, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor) is also crucial.
Experience in Observability tools (APM like Dynatrace, AppDynamics), log consolidation (Splunk), and ELK Stack is necessary. Deep knowledge of Linux (RHEL) operating system performance monitoring, web services, SOA, ESB (DataPower), and RESTful APIs is expected. The ability to define NFRs and SLA/SLO/SLI agreements is vital. Familiarity with queuing models, thread pools, request servicing processes, application design patterns, J2EE architectures, Microservices, Spring Boot, and Cloud-native architectures is required.
Proficiency in Java runtimes, Core Java, garbage collection, and JVM parameter tuning, along with experience in performance tuning of application servers (Tomcat/WAS), is critical. You should be skilled in troubleshooting performance, scalability, and availability issues, including thread dump and heap dump analysis. Query tuning and database architecture knowledge are also important.
Mastery of collaborative software development using Git, Jira, and Confluence is a must. Proficiency in at least one automation scripting language like Python is also a requirement. Knowledge and experience with AI/ML and Data Analytics are considered desirable.
