As a Principal Engineer, you will spearhead technical research, design, coding, implementation, and execution within Research and Systems Engineering. This position is perfect for a senior engineer skilled in translating strategy and architecture into functional code, technical prototypes, test environments, and proof-of-concept solutions.

You will be instrumental in evaluating emerging technologies by building and testing them, assessing their compatibility with Wells Fargo's platforms, architecture, security, risk, infrastructure, and engineering constraints. Your responsibilities will include hands-on design, coding, configuration, integration, testing, troubleshooting, and implementation for RSE research and proof-of-concept initiatives. You will build prototypes and reference implementations to validate technical feasibility, integration requirements, performance, security, resiliency, and enterprise applicability.

Key tasks involve writing production-quality code, automation, APIs, scripts, and infrastructure definitions. You will design and execute structured proofs of concept with defined success criteria, assumptions, and measurable results. Installing, configuring, and testing emerging technologies in approved environments is also crucial.

Furthermore, you'll evaluate technology alignment with enterprise architecture, security, risk, and operational standards. Identifying technical gaps, integration challenges, and operational impacts will inform your expert recommendations on technology adoption. Translating proof-of-concept outcomes into implementable designs, reference patterns, and technical guidance is essential.

We require at least 7 years of engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, or military experience. This includes 7+ years in Technology Infrastructure Engineering and Solutions, and 7+ years of hands-on software development, systems engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure engineering, or architecture implementation.

Additionally, 5+ years of experience designing, coding, integrating, testing, and troubleshooting complex enterprise applications, platforms, infrastructure services, or distributed systems is necessary. Experience creating technical prototypes, proofs of concept, reference implementations, automation, or reusable engineering components is also required.

Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language such as Python, Go, Java, JavaScript, PowerShell, or Bash is essential. Experience with source control, automated testing, CI/CD, APIs, infrastructure automation, observability, and technical documentation is also a must. In-depth knowledge of enterprise infrastructure technologies, including cloud, virtualization, containers, operating systems, networking, storage, security, automation, or distributed systems, is expected.
