Seeking a skilled COBOL Developer for a contract role, offering a hybrid work environment with 3 days in the office per week. This position is based in Noida, Bengaluru, or Hyderabad.

The role involves significant work on D0 to F6 conversion, requiring specialized expertise in handling legacy mainframe system changes. Ideal candidates will possess a strong background in COBOL development and a deep understanding of mainframe architecture and utilities.

Engage in comprehensive COBOL development, focusing on JCL, batch processing, and job scheduling. Work extensively with VSAM, flat files, and Oracle DB. Utilize mainframe utilities for various tasks and perform detailed impact analysis and code remediation.

Key responsibilities include managing field length changes during format conversions, analyzing copybook and file layout modifications, and updating COBOL PIC definitions. Address challenges related to numeric vs. alphanumeric field conversions, space handling, zero padding, truncation, and alignment issues. Resolve buffer overruns and data truncation problems. Perform impact analysis across interfaces and systems, validate fields, and update/test relevant programs.

Requires 6-12 years of hands-on experience in COBOL development. Must have good knowledge of JCL, batch processing, and job scheduling. Experience with VSAM, flat files, and Oracle DB (or other relational databases) is essential. Proficiency in mainframe utilities like SORT, IDCAMS, IEBGENER, and IEFBR14 is expected.

Specific expertise needed for D0 to F6 conversion includes handling field length changes, analyzing copybook/file layout changes, and identifying/remediating field length dependencies across COBOL, databases, and file records. Proficiency in updating COBOL PIC definitions and managing numeric/alphanumeric field conversions is crucial. Skilled in managing common data formatting issues and resolving related technical problems. Experience in impact analysis for field size changes and validating various field types is required. Experience updating and testing programs affected by record layout changes, alongside proficiency in unit, regression, and parallel testing, is necessary. Strong debugging skills using mainframe utilities like File-AID are a must.
