Seeking a skilled COBOL developer for a contract role focused on mainframe application development and conversion. This position requires in-depth knowledge of COBOL and related mainframe technologies to support complex data transformations and system updates.

This role is integral to managing and enhancing legacy mainframe systems, particularly for D0 to F6 conversion projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong analytical mindset and a proven ability to resolve intricate technical challenges.

Develop and maintain COBOL programs within a mainframe environment. Execute batch processing and manage job scheduling effectively. Utilize mainframe utilities for data manipulation and system management. Perform impact analysis for code changes and implement necessary remediations. Troubleshoot and resolve issues in large, complex mainframe applications. Manage field length changes and data format conversions, ensuring data integrity across various systems like COBOL definitions, databases, and files.

Requires strong hands-on experience with COBOL development and a solid understanding of JCL and batch processing. Proficiency in working with VSAM, flat files, and relational databases such as Oracle DB or DB2 is essential. Familiarity with mainframe utilities (e.g., SORT, IDCAMS, IEBGENER) and experience with file layouts, copybooks, and data transformations are necessary.
