Seeking a skilled COBOL Developer for a contract role, offering a hybrid work model. This position involves significant work on legacy mainframe systems, with a focus on handling field length changes during format conversions and D0 to F6 conversions. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and debugging capabilities to ensure data integrity and system stability.

Develop and maintain COBOL programs, ensuring efficient batch processing and job scheduling. Analyze and implement changes related to field length modifications in legacy systems, including updates to COBOL PIC definitions and database columns. Perform thorough impact analysis across various systems and interfaces. Conduct unit testing, regression testing, and parallel run comparisons to validate changes. Resolve issues related to buffer overruns, data truncation, and record mismatches arising from field length alterations.

Requires 6-12 years of hands-on experience in COBOL development. Must have a good understanding of JCL, batch processing, and mainframe utilities. Proficiency with VSAM, flat files, Oracle DB, and experience with tools like File-AID and SORT utilities is essential. Specific experience with D0 to F6 conversion, handling field length changes, copybook analysis, and managing alphanumeric/numeric field conversions is critical.
