Lead the strategic direction, roadmap, and architectural vision for Google Cloud's essential backup and disaster recovery solutions. You will be instrumental in navigating and resolving large, ambiguous problems, fostering consensus across diverse cross-functional teams. This role involves driving the evolution of PD Snapshots and Instant Snapshots to accommodate exponential growth, spearheading multi-quarter initiatives in areas like exabyte-scale data routing, metadata isolation, and zero-latency in-place backup.

Act as a force multiplier by championing product excellence and system reliability. You will mentor both junior and executive engineers, guiding them to achieve ambitious global milestones. Key responsibilities include aligning stakeholders, peer teams, and executive leadership across PD Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and Product Management (PM) on critical design and integration decisions.

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience is required, alongside 8 years of programming expertise in C++. You should have 5 years of experience in testing and launching software products, coupled with 5 years of experience building large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks, or related experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture. Additionally, 3 years of experience in software design and architecture is essential.

Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Candidates should possess 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms, and 3 years of experience in a technical leadership capacity, guiding project teams and defining technical direction. Deep proficiency in C++, with advanced skills in multi-threaded programming, concurrency control, and low-level system optimizations, is highly valued. An extensive background in modern cloud storage infrastructure, disaster recovery (DR), data replication protocols, or block storage snapshot methodologies is also desirable.
