Join the Google Cloud Backup and Disaster Recovery (GCBDR) team, a vital service offering secure, fully-managed data protection for critical workloads across Google Cloud. This role is integral to safeguarding enterprise data against various threats, including ransomware and accidental deletion.

The GCBDR service currently supports first-party GCP resources like Compute Engine, Persistent Disks, Cloud SQL, AlloyDB, and Filestore, featuring immutable, tamper-proof backup storage. In disaster scenarios, it enables rapid, centralized cross-region recovery to ensure business continuity. The team is at the forefront of innovation, rapidly scaling this native SaaS platform, enhancing integrations with the GCP portfolio, and developing advanced features such as searchable backups, malware detection, and data insights, all powered by Google's leading AI capabilities.

As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, testing, deploying, maintaining, and enhancing software components for the Cloud Backup and DR platform.

You will independently deliver high-quality, end-to-end features, managing your own priorities and timelines. Your role will involve active participation in system design discussions, crafting clear technical documentation, and collaborating with senior engineers to refine component architectures.

Key responsibilities also include identifying and rectifying technical debt to boost system scalability, reliability monitoring, and testing coverage. Close collaboration with adjacent engineering teams and cross-functional partners is essential to resolve dependencies and align on integration goals.

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience is required, alongside 8 years of product development experience.

Demonstrated experience in software development using a general-purpose programming language such as Java or JavaScript is necessary. Proficiency in architecting and developing distributed systems is also a core requirement.

Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field. Experience leading software engineering teams and defining technical charters and engineering processes for globally distributed teams will be advantageous.
