Architect and advance the systems underpinning Financial Integrity, ensuring Rippling's financial transactions are precise, dependable, secure, compliant, and fully auditable. Provide hands-on technical guidance throughout the design, implementation, code reviews, testing, deployment, and production operations phases. Embrace a proactive, "founder's mindset" to identify opportunities, question standard practices, and drive innovation in risk, compliance, KYC/Onboarding, and financial operations. Establish the long-term technical vision and roadmap, collaborating with product, engineering, operations, and risk/compliance leaders to shape priorities and deliverables. Design and construct scalable distributed systems adept at handling high transaction volumes, automated controls, and failure recovery mechanisms. Elevate engineering standards for system accuracy, observability, security, operational excellence, and regulatory preparedness. Lead intricate, cross-functional initiatives from initial technical exploration through successful deployment, preemptively identifying risks and clarifying ambiguity. Develop automated solutions to boost operational efficiency, minimize manual effort, and enable organizational scalability in line with business growth. Mentor fellow engineers and influence technical decisions across various teams by conducting architecture reviews, providing design guidance, and championing robust engineering practices. Cultivate a culture of accountability, high standards, and measurable customer and business impact.
We seek a Staff Engineer with a solid technical foundation, excelling in environments that demand significant ownership.
Possess at least 8 years of software engineering experience, including substantial contributions to architecture definition and leadership of complex, cross-team technical initiatives. Demonstrate deep hands-on expertise in developing backend platforms, distributed systems, and high-throughput data or transaction-processing pipelines. Exhibit experience in designing financial systems where correctness, reliability, security, auditability, and regulatory compliance are paramount. Prior experience with payments, ledgers, risk, or compliance systems is advantageous. Showcase a proven capacity to design scalable systems, make sound architectural trade-offs, and set long-term technical direction while addressing immediate business needs. Possess the ability to lead through influence, elevate engineering standards, guide design and code reviews, and mentor engineers without direct managerial oversight. Present a strong history of translating technical visions into clear milestones, managing risks and dependencies, and driving complex initiatives to successful completion. Have a demonstrated ability to partner effectively with product, engineering, finance, operations, risk, and compliance stakeholders across diverse regions and time zones. Be capable of articulating technical concepts, architectural decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
