As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will be instrumental in expanding capabilities and unlocking new features for the Kindle E-reader family. Your work will focus on making it fast, easy, and cost-effective for internal application developers to build and release features on our E-reader stack. You will address complex and novel challenges daily, collaborating with multiple technical teams across Amazon. The role involves tackling problems spanning software, hardware, networks, distributed systems, and automation. You will design and develop critical E-reader components, ensuring a performant, secure, and power-optimized device. This position offers significant learning opportunities and the chance to positively influence millions of users.
We are seeking an expert in C/C++ with proficiency in both client and service-side development. You will collaborate with experienced engineers to design and implement innovative Kindle E-reader components. A key responsibility will be architecting secure software to protect customer data on devices. You will also be responsible for identifying and implementing strategies to keep the software stack up-to-date, considering advancements in both hardware and software. Experience with C++, ReactNative, or Java for reading features on Kindle E-Reader and Kindle Apps (iOS/Android) is expected. Collaboration with peers, product owners, UX designers, and partner tech teams on architecture and design is crucial. Adapting customer experiences for future Kindle E-Reader devices, focusing on operational excellence, and monitoring deployment pipelines are also key aspects of this role. The ability to root cause issues and propose solutions, along with training new team members on E-Reader and Kindle Application software construction, operation, security, and its role in the larger ecosystem, is essential. A Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is required, along with at least 5 years of professional software development experience, including programming in at least one language, leading system design and architecture, and experience as a mentor or tech lead. Preferred qualifications include over 5 years of experience across the full software development lifecycle.
