Join the GitHub Enterprise Server (GHES) Release team as a Software Engineer II or Senior Software Engineer II. You will be instrumental in crafting, verifying, and deploying the software artifacts essential for reliable GHES customer shipments globally. This team manages core components of the GHES release pipeline, including OS and container builds, infrastructure, application layers, package creation and certification, integration testing, and artifact distribution across major cloud platforms.
Collaborate with engineering teams to enhance release dependability, expedite issue detection and resolution, and ensure GHES consistently delivers as a high-quality, secure, and robust appliance for enterprise clients.
- Oversee and refine systems responsible for building GHES operating system images, containers, and appliance artifacts across all layers. - Develop, maintain, and advance release pipelines for generating, validating, and certifying packages for GHES customer delivery. - Construct and manage integration test environments for GHES, ensuring their reliability, representativeness, and scalability for continuous validation. - Elevate CI quality through improved test execution, reliable signal management, faster issue detection and triage, and close partnership with feature teams to resolve failures. - Facilitate the publication and distribution of GHES artifacts to Azure, AWS, and GCP for customer access. - Partner with engineers from platform, infra, release, and product teams to bolster release readiness, debugging capabilities, and root-cause analysis. - Enhance the safety, repeatability, observability, and compliance of release and certification processes. - Lead technical initiatives that streamline releases, boost engineering productivity, and increase confidence in delivered builds. - Contribute to the entire GHES release lifecycle, from build and package creation to validation, certification, and customer delivery. - Provide operational support for release infrastructure and lead investigations and resolutions for critical issues impacting build, test, certification, or package delivery.
For the SDE II role, a minimum of 4 years of experience is required, while for the SSE role, a minimum of 7 years is expected. This experience should be in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field, with a proven track record of maintaining and delivering production software using languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python.
Demonstrated experience in building and operating production CI/CD or release pipelines for complex distributed systems is essential. Familiarity with Linux-based systems, containers, and software packaging or artifact delivery is also a requirement. Candidates must possess experience in troubleshooting build, test, and release failures across various stack layers, alongside a proven ability to enhance engineering systems through automation, observability, and process simplification.
Alternatively, an Associate's Degree in a relevant field combined with 5+ years of experience, or a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field with 4+ years of experience, or a Master's Degree in a relevant field with 2+ years of experience, or a Doctorate in a relevant field will be considered. Equivalent experience will also be evaluated.
