Job description

Join the Amazon Pharmacy Supply Chain Engineering team in Bangalore as a Sr. Software Development Engineer. You will be instrumental in building sophisticated systems that ensure medications reach patients efficiently. This role involves designing and developing cutting-edge, ML-driven supply chain technology. Key areas include demand forecasting, procurement optimization under complex constraints, inventory placement, and capacity planning to meet patient needs.

This is a unique opportunity to join a founding team and build new systems from the ground up, focusing on innovation rather than maintaining legacy code. You will work with large-scale datasets, deploy ML models into production, and engineer highly available distributed systems critical for medication access. The pharmacy supply chain presents unique challenges such as prescription-driven demand, product expiry, regulatory compliance, and varying state regulations.

Embrace an AI-native engineering environment where you'll utilize AI-augmented development workflows daily. This includes leveraging code generation, automated testing, and AI-assisted code reviews. We seek engineers who are fast learners, build intelligently, and take full ownership of their systems from initial design through ongoing production operations.

Responsibilities

Design and develop scalable, resilient services for supply chain optimization, including forecasting, procurement, placement, and planning. Develop ML-integrated systems that continuously improve, such as learned demand models and intelligent reorder logic. Write high-quality, well-tested code and actively participate in code reviews. Implement operations research techniques in production, including optimization solvers and simulation engines. Adhere to supply chain engineering best practices, including backtesting and offline evaluation before deployment. Build data pipelines to process large-scale pharmacy supply chain signals like prescription fills and inventory positions. Own systems end-to-end: design, development, testing, deployment, monitoring, and oncall. Build robust observability with metrics, alarms, and dashboards for real-time supply chain health monitoring. Participate in oncall rotations and drive root-cause analysis for production issues. Design for failure by implementing graceful degradation and circuit breakers for critical services. Partner with Applied Scientists to productionize ML models and experimentation frameworks. Collaborate with product managers to translate business challenges into technical solutions. Contribute to a learning culture through knowledge sharing and mentoring.

Qualifications

Possess at least 5 years of professional software development experience, excluding internships. Demonstrate 5+ years of programming experience in at least one software programming language. Have 5+ years of experience leading the design or architecture of new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling. Show experience as a mentor, tech lead, or in leading an engineering team. Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field. Preferred: 5+ years of experience across the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations. Preferred: 5+ years of experience in a Supply Chain or related Operations domain, with a focus on ML-based applications.
