Join Amazon Shipping as a Sr. Principal Software Engineer, a pivotal role in revolutionizing our externalized parcel transportation services. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain deep insights into Amazon’s comprehensive fulfillment and transportation operations, directly impacting small-parcel delivery for all Amazon marketplaces, subsidiaries, merchants, and external shippers.

You will immerse yourself in the intricate workings of Carrier Integration Services (CIS) and Amazon Shipping, understanding their interdependencies and their role in enabling First Mile, Middle Mile, and Last Mile logistics as we evolve into a complete carrier.

This role is central to defining the strategy and execution for consolidating multiple legacy carrier systems. You will skillfully manage this transition, ensuring seamless coexistence of old and new systems while production operations continue uninterrupted. A key focus will be balancing rapid feature development with business launch enablement, all while proactively preventing technical debt accumulation.

Lead the definition, design, architecture, implementation, and delivery of the most complex and ambiguous technical challenges across our shipping technology umbrella. You may be responsible for one or more critical system components.

Ensure alignment among diverse engineering teams towards a unified technical vision, guaranteeing the creation of cohesive and integrated systems. You will influence multiple teams, significantly enhancing their productivity and overall effectiveness, holding peers and their teams to the highest standards of performance.

Become a recognized authority on technical matters for both technical and business communities. You will be the go-to person for critical trade-off decisions, leveraging your technical expertise and proven accomplishments to build credibility. Drive awareness of the business impact and consequences of all technical decisions.

Champion relentless simplification and demonstrate exceptional innovation, creativity, and judgment when tackling difficult problems. Identify future skill requirements within the organization and actively advocate for talent development or acquisition to senior leadership. Scout and recruit top-tier engineering talent to Amazon.

Provide active mentorship to senior and Principal Engineers. Develop and embed best practices throughout the engineering organization.

A minimum of 10 years of professional software development experience is required.

Possess at least 8 years of programming experience in a modern language such as Java or C++.

Demonstrate 8+ years of contribution to the architecture and design of new and existing systems, including expertise in architectural patterns, reliability, and scalability.

Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field, over 2 years of hands-on experience as a Senior Principal Engineer leading multiple software engineering efforts, experience delivering large-scale supply chain projects, and a track record of partnering with Research Science or Machine Learning experts for optimization initiatives.
