The Core Foundation team is at the forefront of building next-generation indexing and search systems. We are developing advanced solutions to support multiple data formats, diverse execution engines, and federated queries across various data sources. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of search and analytics by leading the development of OpenSearch's cutting-edge indexing, storage, and metadata systems.

Lead and cultivate a multi-team organization of senior engineers and engineering managers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and customer focus.

Define and execute strategic technical roadmaps, balancing immediate customer needs with long-term architectural vision.

Drive critical architectural decisions for large-scale distributed systems, encompassing index build pipelines, consistency models, and cross-region replication.

Collaborate closely with product and business stakeholders to translate customer needs into actionable engineering priorities.

Establish and uphold high standards for operational excellence, including availability, latency, and durability targets for Core Foundation systems.

Recruit, mentor, and retain top engineering talent, building a diverse and high-performing team with strong leadership potential.

Partner with OpenSearch and AWS teams to align on shared infrastructure, manage inter-team dependencies, and contribute to the overall engineering strategy.

Communicate complex technical strategies effectively to senior leadership.

A minimum of 10 years in engineering, with over 5 years in engineering team management.

Extensive experience (10+ years) in planning, designing, developing, and delivering consumer software.

Proven ability to partner effectively with product or program management teams.

Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects, and development teams within an Agile framework.

Experience designing and developing large-scale, high-traffic applications is highly desirable.

Familiarity with developing data infrastructure, search technologies, or similar large-scale data management systems is preferred.
