Job description

Join Microsoft's Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO+I) team, instrumental in building and operating the datacenters that power Microsoft's cloud. This role is vital for anticipating and providing capacity for continuous scale. The CO+I Engineering team delivers essential services, applications, and automation for datacenter planning, construction, and operation. We manage a vast portfolio including workflows for cost-effective datacenter construction, telemetry systems for high availability and energy optimization, and task management applications to ensure operational efficiency.

Microsoft's mission is to empower every person and organization globally. As a team, we foster a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to achieve shared goals. Our daily work is guided by values of respect, integrity, and accountability, cultivating an inclusive culture where everyone can thrive.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated individual contributor who thrives in ambiguity and challenges the status quo to deliver automation capabilities. This role focuses on powering long-range execution planning, driving workflow enhancements, and developing solutions for efficient large-scale datacenter delivery by managing cost and schedule.

Key responsibilities include: - Writing high-quality, maintainable, and reusable code following SOLID principles. - Collaborating with stakeholders and demonstrating features in an Agile environment. - Resolving complex system integration challenges with team members and external groups. - Sharing knowledge and code assets within the CO+I engineering team. - Leveraging product expertise to partner with stakeholders (e.g., project managers) on project and release plans. - Acting as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), guiding engineers and developing playbooks. - Participating in on-call rotations to monitor systems for degradation, alert stakeholders, and initiate restoration actions. - Proactively seeking and adapting to new technical trends and patterns to enhance product availability, reliability, efficiency, and performance at scale.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications: - A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. - A minimum of 4 years of software engineering experience. - Demonstrated expertise in developing, maintaining, and delivering production software using languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python. - Experience building and operating production CI/CD or release pipelines for complex distributed systems. - Proven experience troubleshooting build, test, and release failures across multiple system layers. - A track record of improving engineering systems through automation, observability, and process simplification.

Preferred Qualifications: - Proficiency in C#, Python, Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript. - Experience designing and developing cloud-based applications, APIs, distributed services, or enterprise platforms. - Understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and system-design fundamentals. - Practical knowledge of generative AI concepts, including LLMs, prompt engineering, embeddings, RAG, and AI agents. - Strong problem-solving, debugging, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills. - Familiarity with Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, or similar technologies, as well as Azure AI Search, AKS, App Service, Functions, Cosmos DB, Microsoft Fabric, or Azure Monitor. - Experience with containers, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, and managed-identity security patterns. - Background in microservices, event-driven architectures, distributed systems, caching, and performance optimization.
