Job description

Join Microsoft's Azure Data engineering team, a leader in transforming data analytics with cutting-edge products like Microsoft Fabric, Azure SQL DB, and Power BI. We are building the data platform for the age of AI, empowering data-first applications and fostering a data culture. The Data Integration team within Microsoft Fabric simplifies how organizations connect, move, and shape data across their entire estate, making it trusted, usable, and ready for analytics and AI.

We are seeking a talented DevOps Engineer specializing in Azure and Fabric. This role is crucial for automating region and cloud buildouts, developing scalable deployment pipelines, enhancing operational reliability, and driving zero-touch automation.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include building and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and Git. You will automate build, validation, and deployment processes, ensuring safe promotion of changes across environments and improving deployment reliability with automated quality gates. Additionally, you will automate infrastructure and service onboarding for new Azure regions and cloud environments, converting manual steps into repeatable, zero-touch automation. Developing reusable scripts and tools for various stages of cloud buildouts and supporting deployment workflows for ADF, ADMS, Fabric DI, and Airflow are also core functions.

This role also involves developing automation using PowerShell, Python, Azure CLI, REST APIs, or ARM/Bicep to manage configurations across environments. You will build automated health checks, deployment validation mechanisms, and enhance the scalability and repeatability of infrastructure provisioning. Crucially, you will troubleshoot deployment, configuration, networking, and authentication issues, perform root-cause analysis, and develop automation to prevent recurring failures. Improving monitoring, diagnostics, alerting, and overall operational readiness are essential aspects of this position.

Qualifications

We require a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, along with at least 4 years of technical engineering experience, including coding in languages such as C#, Java, or Python. Equivalent experience will also be considered. Mandatory experience in data integration, migrations, ELT, or ETL tooling is essential.

Strong proficiency is expected in Azure DevOps/CI-CD pipelines, PowerShell and/or Python scripting, Git workflows, Azure infrastructure and deployment concepts, and Infrastructure as Code. Experience with REST APIs and automation tooling, along with strong debugging and troubleshooting skills, is vital. Familiarity with monitoring, logging, incident investigation, Kubernetes/AKS, and container technologies is also required.

Preferred qualifications include experience with ARM/Bicep, Azure networking concepts, Azure identity management, and multi-region or sovereign-cloud deployments. Experience with observability platforms like Kusto, Azure Monitor, or Geneva is a plus. Candidates must be able to meet specific security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
