As a Software Engineer II, you will be instrumental in designing and developing cutting-edge internal tools, robust engineering systems, and advanced automation capabilities. Your work will directly enhance the quality and reliability of Power BI Desktop and Service. This role involves end-to-end tool development, from architecture and backend services to dashboards, telemetry integration, and AI-powered workflows, all aimed at boosting developer productivity, optimizing test efficiency, elevating release quality, and providing deep engineering insights.

Key responsibilities include developing advanced internal tools and platforms to modernize engineering workflows for Power BI Desktop and Service. You will implement scalable, secure, and reliable systems that boost productivity, enable automation, and ensure compliance across engineering teams.

Integrate cutting-edge GenAI, telemetry, and ML-based intelligence into existing tools to expand coverage, improve detection, and generate valuable engineering insights. Modernize legacy systems by migrating them to resilient, cloud-native architectures. Build telemetry-driven insights to enhance observability, diagnostics, and overall product quality. Develop sophisticated automation solutions to support rapid validation cycles for weekly Power BI releases.

Partner closely with Product Management, QA, Release Engineering, and various Partner Teams (Desktop, Service, Infra, ADO/GitHub) to align tooling needs with engineering OKRs. Influence engineering strategy by leveraging data-driven insights, metrics, and tooling analytics. Drive continuous improvement through measurable success indicators and iterative tool enhancements, embodying our inclusive culture and values.

We are seeking candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, complemented by at least 6 years of engineering experience in building software tools, internal platforms, automation systems, or developer productivity solutions. Strong coding proficiency in C#, TypeScript, Java, Python, or JavaScript is essential.

Demonstrated experience in building distributed systems, APIs, dashboards, or specialized engineering tools is required. Candidates should have over 2 years of experience working with test frameworks or engineering systems, such as CI/CD, Azure DevOps, or GitHub pipelines. A proven ability to collaborate effectively across global teams and articulate technical concepts clearly is crucial.

Experience integrating GenAI into developer workflows, including prompting, embeddings, agents, and retrieval mechanisms, is highly desirable. While not strictly required, a Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field with 6+ years of engineering experience, familiarity with PowerShell, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Kusto (KQL), Azure Services, and a passion for improving engineering efficiency through data, telemetry, and intelligent automation are preferred. Candidates must meet security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
