The Live Events Publishing (LEP) team within Prime Video Sports & Linear is responsible for the complete systems that deliver live sports content to customers. We manage and authority the sports catalog crucial for live sports experiences worldwide. Our efforts focus on developing automation, tooling, and AI-powered capabilities that enable swift and accurate content publishing for major live programming like NBA and Fox Sports. As a key part of our expanding engineering hub in Bangalore, this role is vital to increasing our impact.
As a Software Development Manager on the LEP team, you will guide a team of engineers in developing and managing the services that realize our vision: to provide the world's most comprehensive, dependable, and low-latency sports catalog. This will enable sports enthusiasts globally to find, purchase, and enjoy sports content across any format or device.
Your role will involve defining the technical direction, recruiting and developing engineers, and upholding rigorous standards throughout the software development lifecycle. We are seeking a hands-on technical leader who sets high expectations for all development phases, while also focusing on hiring, coaching, and growing a high-performing engineering team. An insatiable curiosity and passion for continuous learning are essential, as is the ability to cultivate an AI-native engineering team adept at utilizing emerging AI technologies.
Key responsibilities include: - Leading and developing software engineers, managing project assignments, performance coaching, and career progression while building a robust hiring pipeline. - Defining and communicating the team's roadmap and technical strategy to management, key stakeholders, and partner teams, ensuring alignment with customer needs. - Facilitating discussions on system design, architecture, and scaling, making informed decisions on trade-offs between reliability, latency, and maintainability for the live sports catalog. - Collaborating with product management and peer engineering managers to define scope, estimate effort, and deliver high-quality software that enhances the global live sports viewing experience. - Promoting operational excellence by establishing metrics, monitoring practices, and automation to ensure the health of team services and customer satisfaction.

Essential qualifications: - A minimum of 8 years in engineering roles. - At least 3 years of experience managing engineering teams. - Over 8 years of experience leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services. - Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices and patterns across the full software, hardware, and network development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations. - Demonstrated experience partnering with product or program management teams. - Proven experience in designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) for both new and existing systems. - A minimum of 3 years specifically in designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
Preferred qualifications include: - Experience communicating effectively with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements, detail software product features, explain technical designs, and articulate product strategy. - Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing teams of Software Engineers to enhance their skills and boost their effectiveness as product software engineers.
