This role is a significant opportunity to lead a dynamic engineering team focused on the technology that powers store operations and enhances grocery partner experiences. As a Software Development Manager, you will guide the development of systems critical to Amazon's swift Quick Commerce growth, a key initiative for our leadership team.
You will own the complete technology stack for launching stores, facilitating the rapid and large-scale onboarding of new partners in various cities. Your responsibilities include developing and refining catalog and selection management systems, creating city-specific assortments, managing individual store catalogs, and simplifying the listing process for sellers. You will also drive the Under-the-Roof (UTR) technology, which governs inventory, picking, staging, and store workflow optimization.
Key aspects of this role involve making critical architecture decisions for systems designed to scale reliably across numerous stores while maintaining ultra-low operational latencies. You will be instrumental in recruiting, mentoring, and developing a team of Software Development Engineers, fostering a culture of ownership and innovation. Collaboration with product, operations, and business teams will be essential to translate business needs into effective technical solutions, alongside establishing engineering best practices and ensuring high operational standards.
A minimum of 7 years of engineering experience is required, with at least 3 years in engineering team management. You should possess over 8 years of experience in defining and developing multi-tier web services. A strong understanding of engineering practices across the full software/hardware/networks development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, certification, and live-site operations, is essential.
Proven experience partnering with product or program management teams is necessary. Preferred qualifications include experience in communicating requirements, technical designs, and product strategy to users, technical teams, and senior leadership. Additionally, experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, coaching, and developing Software Engineers to enhance their skills and effectiveness is highly valued.
