Join Amazon's People eXperience Technology (PXT) team and contribute to critical systems that ensure Amazon associates are paid accurately and on time, globally. As a Software Development Engineer II (SDE-II) in the Time & Pay Innovation (TAA) group, you will own and deliver features for a high-throughput, event-driven platform processing millions of global IoT punch events. You'll be instrumental in developing technology to manage employee time expectations and compute pay for Amazon's current and emerging businesses. This role focuses on real-time analytics of data from IoT devices and web interfaces, backed by high-availability services. You'll tackle complex business rules across diverse roles, businesses, and jurisdictions, operating at Amazon's immense scale.

- Lead the design and delivery of substantial features and components within scalable, multi-tiered applications and services, managing projects from inception to production operation. - Develop high-quality, thoroughly tested production code using modern programming languages, design patterns, and frameworks, upholding stringent code review standards. - Make informed technical decisions, evaluating trade-offs in areas like caching, retry strategies, concurrency, and data modeling, and clearly articulating these choices. - Engineer for robustness and scalability, anticipating failure modes, traffic surges, and downstream dependencies, and implementing resilience patterns. - Ensure operational excellence by monitoring system health, addressing alarms, investigating root causes, and enhancing observability. - Actively participate in system-level design discussions, contributing solutions and challenging assumptions to refine architectures. - Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and technical guidance, fostering their skill development and good engineering practices. - Translate complex business requirements related to punch processing, attendance, scheduling, and compliance into clear technical designs. - Proactively address and resolve technical debt by improving code quality, simplifying logic, optimizing performance, and refactoring systems for future growth. - Contribute to team processes, including sprint planning and retrospectives, and help elevate engineering practices and team velocity.

- Demonstrated experience with 3+ years in professional software development (non-internship). - 2+ years of experience in designing or architecting new and existing systems, focusing on reliability and scaling. - At least 1 year of experience as a Software Development Engineer or in a related role. - Over 1 year of experience designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded, or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using languages such as C#, C++, Java, or Perl. - Minimum 1 year of experience with Object-Oriented Design principles. - A Bachelor's degree or its foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related field. - Proficiency in at least one software programming language. - Experience with the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations is highly preferred. - A Bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent qualification is advantageous.
