As a Software Development Engineer II, you will be instrumental in adding new capabilities and unlocking advanced features for the Kindle E-reader family. Our primary objective is to enable internal application developers to build and release features efficiently and cost-effectively on our E-reader stack.
You will be responsible for designing and developing critical components within the E-reader's operating system and low-level architecture. This ensures the product remains performant, secure, and power-optimized. Additionally, you will develop applications leveraging our unique Kindle Operating System.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with experienced engineers to conceptualize and design innovative E-reader components. You will also architect and develop secure software solutions to safeguard customer data stored on devices. Proficiency in C/C++ is essential for understanding E-reader internals, with React Native knowledge being a valuable asset for application development. This role also involves guiding junior team members.
A strong foundation in software development is essential, with at least three years of professional experience beyond internships. You should possess two or more years of experience in designing or architecting new and existing systems, demonstrating knowledge of design patterns, reliability, and scaling principles.
Furthermore, candidates must have experience programming in at least one software programming language. A proven track record of three or more years in the full software development lifecycle, encompassing coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations, is highly preferred. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field is also desirable.
