Job description

Join a pioneering team in Bangalore to shape the future of Amazon's connected devices. This role focuses on the core operating system layer, encompassing the Linux kernel, device drivers, RTOS, and bootloaders. You will be instrumental in optimizing critical performance metrics like boot time, memory usage, and power efficiency for resource-constrained hardware. Close collaboration with SoC vendors is essential for low-level platform enablement.

This is a fantastic opportunity to impact the foundational technology powering next-generation devices. You'll work within a dynamic and hyper-growth environment, contributing to a highly visible and critical aspect of the Alexa ecosystem.

Responsibilities

Develop and maintain robust Linux kernel configurations, device drivers, and board support packages (BSPs).

Drive significant optimizations in boot time, memory footprint, and overall power consumption at the OS level.

Implement and sustain secure bootloader chains, including U-Boot and custom solutions.

Port and integrate RTOS components, such as FreeRTOS and Zephyr, for companion microcontrollers.

Proactively debug and resolve low-level system issues including kernel panics, race conditions, and memory leaks.

Partner with SoC vendors to address kernel patches, workaround hardware errata, and update BSPs.

Lead the kernel upgrade strategy and manage long-term support (LTS) branches.

Qualifications

A minimum of 7 years of professional software development experience, excluding internships, is required. This includes at least 5 years of programming experience in a core software language and 5 years in leading the design or architecture of systems, focusing on patterns, reliability, and scaling.

Possess 7+ years of hands-on experience in Linux kernel development or systems programming. Proficiency in C/C++ and working knowledge of ARM or RISC-V assembly are essential.

Demonstrate experience writing or maintaining Linux device drivers (character, block, network, platform). A deep understanding of memory management (MMU, DMA, cache coherency), scheduler internals, and power management frameworks is crucial.

Familiarity with bootloaders such as U-Boot, GRUB, or custom implementations is necessary. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent work experience is a prerequisite.
