Join Amazon's Devices & Services Trust CX Innovations team and help build the future of responsible AI for consumer devices. This role focuses on creating privacy-first, accessible, and trustworthy AI experiences for millions of customers using products like Alexa and Echo.
As a Software Development Engineer II, you will design and implement foundational systems and consumer-facing features that enable trustworthy AI at scale. You'll collaborate with Principal Engineers and Managers to develop privacy-preserving AI architectures and responsible AI frameworks.
This is a high-impact opportunity to tackle complex technical challenges at the intersection of AI innovation and customer trust, balancing performance, privacy, explainability, and customer protection.
You will architect and build privacy-preserving AI systems, including federated learning and differential privacy techniques. Responsibilities include creating privacy-preserving data pipelines, consent management frameworks, and designing on-device vs. cloud processing trade-offs.
Additionally, you will develop consumer-facing trust features such as explainable AI interfaces, transparency controls, privacy dashboards, and cross-device identity management with privacy-first principles.
Key technical challenges involve optimizing latency vs. privacy, achieving AI safety at scale, building privacy controls for ambient computing, architecting multimodal AI systems, and creating low-latency real-time evaluation systems.
Candidates should possess at least 3 years of professional software development experience (excluding internships) and 2+ years in designing or architecting new and existing systems, including familiarity with design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
A strong foundation in at least one software programming language is essential. Preferred qualifications include 3+ years of experience across the full software development life cycle (coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations) and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Success in this role requires customer obsession for trust, technical excellence in distributed systems, expertise in AI and privacy-preserving techniques, a bias for action in ambiguous environments, and an inclusive mindset to design for all customers.
