The Methodology, Infrastructure & Labs Engineering (MILE) organization within SCHIE is crucial for Microsoft's silicon strategy, focusing on end-to-end design methodologies, EDA/CAD ecosystems, and the compute infrastructure for custom silicon like Azure Cobalt and Azure Maia processors.

We are seeking a skilled Silicon Physical Design CAD Engineer to develop, automate, and support production CAD flows for silicon physical design. This role demands a blend of physical design expertise, proficiency with EDA tools, strong scripting capabilities, and disciplined software engineering practices.

Key responsibilities include developing, maintaining, and supporting physical design CAD flows and methodologies, and working with industry-standard EDA tools from Synopsys and Cadence for various physical design tasks. You will also perform tool and flow qualification, validate EDA tool releases and patches, and develop/maintain regression frameworks to assess flow performance and Quality of Results (QoR).

Analyze results to pinpoint issues in timing, power, area, or runtime. Debug complex problems across EDA tools, scripts, flows, and compute environments. Automate repetitive CAD tasks and create scalable utilities using Python, Tcl, or Zsh. Manage CAD flow development and releases using Git and code-review practices.

Collaborate effectively with physical design engineers, methodology teams, CAD engineers, and EDA vendors to resolve issues and enhance design productivity. Maintain comprehensive documentation for flow releases, regression results, and methodology changes. Drive continuous improvements in flow reliability, scalability, automation, and turnaround time. You will also explore and implement AI for task automation and workflow enhancement.

A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience is required, along with at least 3 years of hands-on experience in Silicon Physical Design or developing/supporting Silicon Physical Design CAD Tools, Flows, and Methodologies. Proficiency in scripting languages such as Tcl and Python is essential.

Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience, with 4+ years of experience in Silicon Physical Design CAD Tools, Flows, and Methodologies. Hands-on experience with CAD/EDA tool qualifications and releases, and a strong understanding of Synthesis, Place and Route (PNR), and Sign-off concepts, along with experience in Synopsys, Cadence, or Siemens physical design tool stacks are highly desirable.

Additional preferred experience includes developing and maintaining Physical Design CAD Infrastructure software and hands-on experience with AI-based EDA workflows. Strong self-motivation, a growth mindset, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills are critical for success.
