Job description

Join a dynamic team focused on enhancing the reliability, compatibility, performance, battery life, and sustainability of Windows devices. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of Windows device optimizations, leveraging advancements in AI, silicon, and software. You'll be instrumental in driving technical direction and fostering talent to deliver exceptional device fundamentals.

This position is perfect for an engineering leader who thrives on complex technical challenges, people development, and creating innovative solutions that impact how people live and work. Microsoft is committed to empowering everyone to achieve more, fostering a culture of growth, innovation, and collaboration.

Our team operates with a growth mindset, valuing respect, integrity, and accountability to build an inclusive environment where everyone can excel.

Responsibilities

Guide your team in leveraging telemetry, experimentation, and trace analysis to understand system behavior, identify improvements, and measure impact. Lead intricate, cross-functional investigations involving low-level debugging, performance tuning, and power optimization.

Own the technical roadmap for Windows Fundamentals, contributing to architecture and aligning priorities with user and business needs. Manage the development and delivery of robust solutions across hardware, firmware, OS, and application layers. Maintain a high standard for quality, security, and performance while ensuring predictable delivery.

Utilize data and customer insights to manage risks, prioritize tasks, and achieve measurable outcomes. Build and retain a diverse engineering team, collaborating effectively with Windows teams, OEMs, and silicon vendors.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related technical field is required, along with over 10 years of technical engineering experience, including coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.

Additionally, a minimum of 2 years of people management experience leading software engineers, focusing on coaching, performance management, and career development, is essential. Experience leading the design, development, and optimization of complex system software or platform capabilities is crucial.

Demonstrated success in leading teams to deliver scalable and reliable products is expected. Strong technical judgment in software architecture, systems design, debugging, and engineering tradeoffs is vital. The ability to navigate ambiguity, prioritize effectively using data, and influence decisions across teams is also a key requirement. Solid knowledge of Windows internals, performance, reliability, or power optimization is necessary, as is experience coordinating initiatives across hardware, firmware, OS, and application boundaries.
