Rippling is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the evolution of its Monetization Platform. This role is crucial for supporting Rippling's rapid growth across HR, IT, and Finance by ensuring seamless and scalable monetization of new products and services.

The Monetization Platform team is responsible for the end-to-end revenue lifecycle, from quoting and contracting to billing, payment collection, and revenue recognition. It underpins a significant sales base and supports complex billing rules, including usage-based metering and international localization.

Drive technical strategy and execution for the next generation of Rippling's Monetization Platform.

Own broad technical charters covering CPQ, contracts, entitlements, subscriptions, usage metering, billing, invoicing, payments, tax, and revenue workflows.

Define and implement architectures for systems demanding high data integrity, auditability, and reliability.

Design durable platform abstractions that enable product teams to introduce new monetization models efficiently.

Lead cross-functional initiatives from concept to production ownership, ensuring clear service boundaries and robust failure handling.

Make critical technical tradeoffs balancing correctness, performance, scalability, and development speed.

Stay hands-on with code reviews, debugging, and implementation decisions.

Partner closely with Product, Finance, Accounting, and other engineering teams.

Establish engineering best practices for critical monetization systems, focusing on testing, observability, and operational readiness.

Mentor engineers to elevate technical leadership and judgment across the organization.

A seasoned Senior Staff Software Engineer with at least 15 years of experience in backend, platform, or systems engineering.

Demonstrated success operating at a Staff+ level, with deep hands-on experience in coding, debugging, system design, and production ownership.

Expertise in building and operating large-scale distributed systems with stringent reliability and data correctness requirements.

Strong architectural understanding across APIs, databases, data modeling, concurrency, event-driven systems, and service boundaries.

Proven ability to lead ambiguous, cross-functional technical initiatives from inception through ongoing operation.

Exceptional technical judgment and the skill to navigate complex tradeoffs between business needs and engineering quality.

Strong influencing skills to align senior engineers and product leaders, coupled with a passion for mentorship and raising the engineering bar.

Clear and effective written and verbal communication, capable of conveying complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.

Adaptability and comfort in fast-paced, high-ambiguity environments.

Proficiency in one or more backend programming languages; Python and Django experience is highly desirable.
