Job description

Mastercard is a global technology leader in the payments industry, dedicated to powering economies and empowering people across over 200 countries. We strive to create an inclusive, digital economy that benefits everyone by making transactions secure, simple, smart, and accessible. Our mission is driven by a strong "decency quotient" (DQ), fostering a culture of integrity and collaboration. We are building a sustainable world, unlocking priceless possibilities for all through innovative solutions and strong partnerships.

This role is integral to a unified internal platform designed to enable Mastercard teams to create consistent, accessible, and analytics-driven UI experiences. We utilize reusable frameworks, automation, and embedded governance to achieve this. If you thrive on building and executing strategic initiatives focused on user experience and enjoy collaborating with diverse, high-performing teams globally, this is an exciting opportunity within a highly visible and strategically important engineering organization.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will own the end-to-end software delivery lifecycle for application components, encompassing code development, testing, deployment, release, configuration, and documentation. You will be responsible for troubleshooting and refactoring existing code to ensure exceptional quality and will be expected to adopt new languages and architectural patterns as needed.

You will actively participate in the team's agile processes and contribute to decision-making and prioritization. Responsibilities include pulling work from the backlog, collaborating with experienced team members and the scrum team, and automating build, operate, and run aspects of software. Driving code, design, and process trade-off discussions, along with integrating services to enhance customer journeys, are key duties. You will perform demos, engage in acceptance discussions with Product Owners, and continuously improve operational and engineering experiences.

Developing a comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end technical architecture and dependency systems is crucial. You will drive the adoption of technology standards and opinionated frameworks, while also reviewing the coding, testing, and automation work of team members. Mentoring and guiding less experienced team members, identifying process improvement opportunities, and sharing knowledge within your Guild/Program to drive reuse and enhance productivity are also expected.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, you should possess the ability to write secure code in at least three programming languages, such as Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript, and have a strong understanding of secure coding standards (e.g., OWASP, CWE, SEI CERT) and vulnerability management. Experience with Infrastructure as Code and cloud-first software development is highly preferred.

Familiarity with standard branching strategies like Gitflow and peer review practices is essential, along with a drive towards trunk-based development. Proficiency in applying tools like Sonar, Zally, and Checkmarx for code quality scanning and anti-pattern measurement is expected. You should be skilled in Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD), maintaining a healthy testing pyramid and writing comprehensive test code at various levels.

An understanding of basic and advanced design patterns, along with experience in implementing Application Programming Interface (API) standards and cataloging, is required. Proven experience in agile and modern SDLC practices, including Scrum, Kanban, Continuous Delivery, DevOps, and Quality Engineering, is necessary. You must be adept at elaborating and estimating non-functional requirements, covering security, regulatory, and performance aspects. Experience orchestrating release workflows and pipelines using industry-standard tools for CI/CD is also a key requirement. The ability to debug and troubleshoot complex issues, perform product demos, and understand customer journeys to ensure a superior Mastercard experience is vital.
