We are looking for a Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead a dedicated team focused on critical Windows Fundamentals data and services. Lead the strategic direction and roadmap for Windows Fundamentals backend services, telemetry systems, data pipelines, and diagnostic capabilities. Oversee the architecture, delivery, and continuous operation of scalable systems for telemetry ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and storage. Maintain rigorous engineering standards for service reliability, security, privacy, observability, and data quality. Guide the team in leveraging large-scale telemetry and statistical methods to identify issues and drive product improvements. Drive automation and AI-assisted analysis to enhance early issue detection and reduce operational burden. Utilize data and customer insights to manage risks, balance new feature development with service health, and ensure measurable outcomes are achieved.
Recruit, mentor, and retain a diverse team of engineers. Foster strong collaboration with Windows engineering, data science, security, and other relevant teams to ensure architectural alignment and successful execution. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of Windows device health.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in software engineering, complemented by a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, is required. Equivalent practical experience will also be considered.
Proven experience of at least two years in people management, including coaching, performance management, hiring, and career development for software engineers, is essential. Candidates should possess demonstrated experience leading the design, development, deployment, and operation of backend services, distributed systems, data pipelines, telemetry platforms, or large-scale analytics. A track record of successfully leading teams in delivering and operating reliable production products or services at scale is crucial.
Strong technical judgment in service architecture, systems design, data engineering, security, reliability, and debugging is expected. The ability to navigate ambiguity, prioritize effectively using data, manage risks, and influence technical decisions across various teams is vital. Experience managing teams responsible for cloud services, distributed systems, data engineering, telemetry platforms, or production operations is required. Familiarity with Windows Fundamentals, Windows internals, or reliability engineering is a plus.
Leadership in developing secure and compliant services with robust observability, deployment controls, data quality practices, and live-site response is necessary. Experience defining organizational metrics and measurement strategies using large-scale telemetry and statistical analysis is expected. A proven ability to shape architecture, apply automation or AI to engineering workflows, and collaborate with senior stakeholders is highly valued.
Familiarity with technologies such as C, C++, C#, Python, PowerShell, SQL/KQL, WinDbg, Windows Performance Analyzer, ETW, Kusto, Azure services, Power BI, statistical analysis, and machine learning is beneficial.
