This Senior Software Engineer role involves end-to-end ownership of workstreams within the screening platform. You'll operate with significant autonomy, transforming organizational objectives into robust technical roadmaps. Identifying and leading the resolution of critical team challenges is key. In collaboration with a peer tech lead, you will spearhead multi-quarter technical initiatives, shape architectural direction, and amplify the impact of our talented engineering workforce.

The Payments team at Google focuses on creating seamless, simple, and secure payment experiences, whether online, in-store, or via the Google Pay app. Beyond consumer technologies, this team also manages the financial transactions between Google and its users and businesses.

Take ownership of problems within the Anti-Financial Crime (AFC) sanctions screening space and define the technical strategy for their resolution.

Establish technical direction, create detailed design documents, and lead design reviews for intricate, multi-quarter features. Enhance system stability and production health, proactively identifying improvement opportunities and advocating for system scaling to meet future demands by influencing leadership.

Collaborate closely with cross-functional partners including Product Managers, Technical Program Managers, Payments Compliance Operations, Export Legal, and Platform teams to address architectural dependencies and synchronize project schedules.

Provide guidance, mentorship, and task delegation to junior and mid-level engineers, cultivating a collaborative and high-performance engineering environment.

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience is required.

Possess 5 years of software development experience in at least one programming language, coupled with 3 years of experience in testing, maintaining, or launching software products.

Demonstrate 1 year of experience in software design and architecture. A Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical field is preferred, along with 5 years of experience in data structures and algorithms.

Showcase proven experience in software design and architecture, successfully launching complex systems into production with diligence. Familiarity with the payments and compliance domains, as well as Google's big-data infrastructure (Flume, Storage) and experimentation platforms (Rasta, Mendel), is advantageous.
