Job description

Join Mastercard, a global leader in empowering economies and individuals across 200+ countries. We are building a sustainable economy where everyone can thrive through secure, simple, and smart digital payments. Our innovative technology, strategic partnerships, and extensive networks enable people, businesses, and governments to reach their full potential.

The Mastercard Developer Workbench, a key part of the MSBX division, is transforming into a unified, developer-centric platform. With over 11,500 software engineers, we are committed to delivering an integrated, end-to-end developer experience. This pivotal role offers a unique chance to influence how engineers at a premier technology company build, test, and deploy software.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain essential components for the Developer Workbench platform throughout the entire development lifecycle. Contribute significantly to the platform's technical strategy and roadmap, evolving it from a cost-allocation tool to a cohesive, productized developer experience.

Drive the integration and adoption of software engineering tools, prioritizing usability and reliability. Manage the governance of development tooling, including version lifecycle, evaluations, and deprecation. Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to align workbench capabilities with organizational engineering goals.

Enhance developer enablement features like onboarding and self-service tools to maximize the value of deployed resources for all engineers. Create pre-provisioned onboarding environments enabling new hires to be productive within 30 minutes. Implement AI-augmented development, including agentic coding tools and automated quality pipelines. Instrument the platform with key metrics for developer productivity and platform health.

Ensure tooling adheres to Mastercard's security and regulatory standards. Participate actively in the Software Engineering Guild to share expertise and promote best practices across the organization. Engage with security and compliance teams to guarantee robust tooling implementations.

Qualifications

A strong foundation in software engineering, with experience in platform engineering, developer tooling, or developer experience (DevEx) products. Proven hands-on experience building and managing enterprise-scale developer platforms or internal tools.

Deep familiarity with the modern developer tooling landscape is essential, including AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code), containerization (e.g., Docker Desktop, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins), and developer portals (e.g., Backstage).

Experience using AI-powered developer tools in a regulated environment, understanding policy compliance and responsible AI usage. A solid grasp of developer experience principles and the ability to translate developer challenges into tangible platform improvements. Experience designing and deploying standardized development environments at scale is highly desirable.

Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), infrastructure automation, and cloud-native development patterns. Ability to drive tool adoption through effective instrumentation, metrics, and feedback. Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective cross-functional collaboration. Familiarity with software development productivity metrics (e.g., DORA metrics) and data-informed decision-making. Self-motivated and adaptable to evolving technology landscapes. Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and the full SDLC.
