This Senior Software Engineer role is within our Mastercard Payment Networks Technology team. You will be instrumental in advancing our customer experience strategy through continuous innovation and problem-solving. In this role, you will independently translate complex business and system requirements into pragmatic designs, modular code, and production-ready applications. You'll develop AI-powered applications and backend services by leveraging hosted foundation-model APIs, enterprise data, and reusable services, swiftly evaluating ideas for progression, pivoting, or discontinuation.

Key responsibilities include building end-to-end Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions, developing and integrating Model Context Protocol (MCP) clients and servers, and creating agentic workflows with advanced patterns like tool calling and human-in-the-loop approvals. You will utilize AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate development lifecycles, define rigorous engineering standards, and ensure the productionization of validated AI solutions with a focus on security, reliability, and operational excellence. Embedding security, privacy, compliance, and Responsible AI principles into solution design is paramount. You will collaborate effectively within a fast-paced Agile environment with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.

We are looking for candidates with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. A strong background in delivering secure, reliable enterprise applications, APIs, backend services, or distributed systems is essential, reflecting the independence expected of a Senior Software Engineer.

Demonstrated hands-on experience in building AI-enabled applications using modern programming languages, enterprise data, APIs, and AI-assisted development tools is required. Practical experience with LLM applications, RAG, agentic workflows, or similar applied AI patterns is crucial. You should possess hands-on experience with AI application frameworks, hosted model services, and relevant SDKs, alongside a robust understanding of API design, distributed systems, automated testing, secure development, CI/CD, and production support practices.

Preferred qualifications include experience in payments, high-volume transaction processing, or other highly available and regulated technology environments. Familiarity with cloud-native platforms, observability, resiliency, and Responsible AI practices is a plus. Essential technical skills encompass Python or another modern programming language, SQL and other databases, backend services, distributed systems, Git, and automated testing. Expertise in LLM application development, RAG, agent workflows, and guardrails, along with knowledge of platforms like Anthropic APIs, AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI, and SDKs such as LangChain or LangGraph, is expected.
