This team builds the end-to-end AI stack, powering everything from GitHub and Office to Teams and Xbox. We are developing industry-leading Responsible AI services, including Azure OpenAI, Model as a Service, Azure ML, and Cognitive Services. Our focus is on identifying, measuring, and mitigating Responsible AI risks across various content types.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer passionate about creating customer-facing, high-performance, and low-latency AI services. You will collaborate with a talented group of engineers, scientists, and product managers, contributing to the evolution of Responsible AI services and integrating with major Azure AI platforms.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will drive AI-native development by responsibly utilizing AI tools across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). You will ensure the accuracy of AI-generated artifacts and enhance AI-enabled processes. Raising code quality through timely, high-signal reviews and robust engineering practices, including secure coding, performance optimization, and thorough testing, will be key.

You will own and evolve complex system architectures and designs, ensuring clear test strategies and robust security testing. Integrating dependencies across systems and teams, evaluating trade-offs, and ensuring solutions meet performance, scalability, resiliency, and compliance requirements are vital. Drive engineering best practices and automation, strengthen security and privacy compliance, and operationalize "security as code."

Plan and deliver through roadmaps with capacity-aware execution, using safe deployment practices and well-defined rollback strategies. Enhance reliability via comprehensive telemetry and privacy-aware monitoring. Lead as an on-call engineer using playbooks and SLA discipline, reducing incident volume through systemic fixes and postmortems. Partner with stakeholders to validate user requirements, incorporate customer insights, and define measurable feedback loops.

To be considered for this role, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience, is required. We are looking for at least 6 years of professional software engineering experience with hands-on development in C# or Python.

Strong expertise in software design, system architecture, data structures, and algorithms is essential, along with a proven ability to design scalable, reliable, and secure services. You should have demonstrable experience owning and delivering complex features or services end-to-end, from design through operational support. A solid understanding of cloud-based and distributed systems, including reliability, performance optimization, and live site support, is necessary.

We value the ability to influence technical direction and mentor others, demonstrated through design leadership and cross-team collaboration. Experience applying secure coding practices and ensuring compliance with Microsoft's security, privacy, and engineering quality standards is crucial. Preferred qualifications include 8+ years of technical engineering experience (or 6+ years with a Master's degree), advanced technical judgment, architectural capability, and demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills. Exposure to AI platforms, large language models (LLMs), and core machine learning concepts is highly desirable.
