This Senior Software Engineer role is integral to our Global SME Engineering team, focused on developing innovative solutions that empower small and medium businesses. You'll be part of a lean, high-impact team, driving product and platform development from inception. We foster a culture of rapid iteration, frequent brainstorming, and open idea exchange, valuing diverse perspectives and continuous learning from one another, regardless of seniority.
As a Senior Software Engineer within SME Services, you will contribute to critical areas such as Cashflow Management, Open Banking integrations, Invoicing, Expense Management, SME Employee Experiences, Cyber Risk solutions, and Educational/Training platforms. You will also support value-added services like Loyalty programs and Market Insights to drive business growth.
Key responsibilities include analyzing, designing, developing, and delivering robust software solutions. You will define application requirements, adhering to best practices and standards. This role involves owning complex, cross-service challenges, facilitating team collaboration for effective resolution, and writing high-quality code through rigorous reviews and scanning.
You will also define and develop service-level solutions, drive prioritization and trade-offs with product partners, and identify opportunities for service enhancement. Automating and simplifying development and delivery processes is crucial, alongside driving seamless integrations and fostering a culture of blameless postmortems to learn from incidents.
Additionally, you will introduce new technologies and architectures, advocate for engineering principles, and provide guidance to team members. Building strong cross-organizational relationships, evaluating job promotion recommendations, and conducting technical interviews to elevate the engineering talent pool are also key aspects. Leading by example with hands-on technical expertise and encouraging knowledge sharing within the team will drive collective improvement and productivity.
We are seeking engineers proficient in writing secure code in at least three programming languages (e.g., C, C+, C#, Java, JavaScript) and familiar with secure coding standards like OWASP and CWE. Expertise in building applications with open frameworks such as Spring Boot, Steeltoe, or Angular is essential.
Understanding operating system internals (Windows, Linux) for optimized and interoperable code is required, along with strong debugging and troubleshooting skills for analyzing core, heap, and thread dumps. You should be adept at documenting and coaching teams on development practices, including branching strategies, peer reviews, library usage, logging, and test-driven development.
Familiarity with advanced design patterns (e.g., service-to-worker, MVC, API gateway) for efficient code implementation is expected. The ability to conduct technical code reviews, understand and articulate technical debt, and plan for system architecture and infrastructure capacity are critical. Ensuring a positive customer experience by reducing Mean Time to Mitigate (MTTM) and maintaining high availability is a priority.
Skills in simplifying deployments through standardization and automation, orchestrating release workflows using CI/CD tools (Jenkins, AWS/Azure pipelines), and configuring vulnerability scanning tools (Sonar, Checkmarx) are necessary. Experience in defining and executing various test runs, including performance tests (load, spike, endurance), is also required. A Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering, or equivalent experience, is needed for this role.
