Job description

Join Optum, a global leader dedicated to improving health outcomes through innovative technology. Our EMR Team is seeking a talented Software Engineer to contribute to the development and enhancement of applications that streamline clinical document exchange between providers and payers. This role offers a dynamic environment where you'll collaborate with experienced professionals, work with modern engineering practices like DevOps and CI/CD, and help build scalable, efficient solutions.

We foster a culture of inclusion, teamwork, and continuous learning, providing ample opportunities for career growth and professional development. Be part of a mission-driven organization that empowers individuals to live healthier lives and advance health optimization worldwide. Embrace our values of Caring, Connecting, and Growing together.

Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer on the EMR Team, you will be instrumental in the full software development lifecycle, including design, development, testing, deployment, and support. You'll build and maintain cloud-native services, APIs, and integrations crucial for claims auditing and provider engagement workflows. Your contributions will involve actively participating in Agile ceremonies, engaging in technical discussions, troubleshooting complex issues, and enhancing software quality through rigorous testing and automation.

This position encourages the adoption of cutting-edge engineering practices such as DevOps, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and observability tools. You will play a key role in delivering robust solutions that boost operational efficiency, elevate user experiences, and align with core business objectives. This role emphasizes self-direction and encourages innovative application of technology.

Qualifications

We are looking for an enthusiastic Software Engineer with 1-3 years of professional development experience and proficiency in at least one of the following languages: Java, C#, Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript. A strong foundation in software engineering principles, including object-oriented programming, unit testing, version control, code reviews, and Agile methodologies, is essential. Experience with RESTful APIs, relational databases, and cloud-based development is highly desirable.

While exposure to cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, or AI-assisted development is a plus, it is not strictly required. We value a proactive attitude, a willingness to learn new technologies, and the ability to adapt to evolving business needs. Excellent communication, collaboration, and attention to detail are critical for success in this fast-paced, team-oriented environment. An undergraduate degree or equivalent experience is a prerequisite for this role.
