Join Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) to power Microsoft's intelligent cloud mission. SCHIE is responsible for the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for over 200 Microsoft online businesses, including Azure, Office 365, and Xbox Live. The Compute Silicon & Manufacturing Engineering (CSME) organization designs, develops, manufactures, and packages Microsoft's cutting-edge computer chips, such as the Azure Cobalt. As cloud services expand, timely delivery of high-volume, high-quality, and cost-effective hardware infrastructure is critical. The Verification & Validation team plays a key role in defining and achieving operational success in hardware manufacturing, enhancing planning, quality, delivery, scale, and sustainability for Microsoft's cloud hardware.
As a Senior SOC Performance Verification Engineer, you will be a core member of the pre-silicon SOC verification team, taking ownership of performance verification aspects. You will collaborate closely with architecture, design, firmware, and emulation teams, and develop a deep understanding of the overall SOC architecture, including power and performance trade-offs.
Key responsibilities include establishing verification strategies, developing test plans, defining requirements, building environments, selecting tools, and implementing methodologies. You will leverage your expertise in performance verification principles to create test plans and develop tests, generators, test benches, checkers, and coverage metrics.
Your role will involve running tests, correlating results with architecture specifications, debugging failures to their root cause, and recommending fixes. A growth mindset is essential for learning and adapting in this complex environment. You will actively engage with partners to drive continuous improvements in architecture, design, verification plans, collateral, and methodologies to identify and resolve bugs earlier and more reliably.
Additionally, you will mentor and coach team members, embodying a "One Microsoft" mentality to foster collaboration and influence across various teams, including architects, logic designers, post-silicon validators, other verification engineers, and IP and tool providers. You are expected to embody our culture and values.
This role requires a minimum of 8 years of pre-silicon SOC, subsystem, or IP verification experience. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is mandatory.
You should possess at least 6 years of verification experience on CPU/SOC designs and a minimum of 2 years of experience in design for debug verification.
Preferred qualifications include over 3 years of experience as part of a CPU, SoC, and/or IP development team with a focus on performance. Demonstrated expertise in areas such as performance verification, ARM architecture, CPU architecture, Memory Controller/PHY IPs, DDR protocols, coherent and non-coherent fabric IPs and protocols, PCIe Controller/PHY IPs and protocols, or ACE lite/CHI bus protocols is highly advantageous.
A working knowledge of C/C++ and experience with emulation, constraints, and their implications on performance verification are also preferred. Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills are essential for contributing to diverse and inclusive teams.
