Senior Silicon Engineer - Front -End CAD
Microsoft
Microsoft
Join Microsoft's Silicon, Cloud Hardware, and Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team to drive innovation in cloud infrastructure. This role focuses on enabling Microsoft's custom silicon strategy through the development and support of CAD flows, methodologies, and automation for front-end silicon design. You'll be instrumental in building the foundational technologies powering Microsoft's intelligent cloud mission, working with cutting-edge processors like Azure Cobalt and Azure Maia.
As a Silicon Front-End (FE) CAD Software Engineer, you will shape the tools and processes that accelerate silicon development. Your expertise will contribute to the quality, speed, and cost-efficiency of delivering new silicon innovations at scale. This is an opportunity to make a significant impact on Microsoft's global cloud infrastructure.
Develop, maintain, and support front-end CAD flows and methodologies, ensuring robust and efficient silicon design processes.
Design, build, and refine CAD software, utilities, and automation scripts primarily using Python, adhering to disciplined software engineering practices.
Create and manage dashboards, CAD indicators, and metrics to provide clear visibility into flow health, quality, runtime, and overall design productivity.
Implement and maintain regression and continuous integration frameworks to rigorously evaluate flow stability, functionality, runtime, and quality of results.
Analyze results to identify and address functional, runtime, resource, or quality regressions across various tool and flow releases.
Debug complex issues that span CAD software, flows, scripts, and compute/cloud environments.
Automate repetitive CAD tasks and develop scalable, system-level utilities and applications.
Utilize Git for version control and code review to manage CAD flow development and releases.
Collaborate effectively with design, verification, methodology, and CAD engineers, as well as EDA vendors, to gather requirements and enhance design productivity.
Maintain high-quality documentation for software, flow releases, regression results, known issues, and methodology changes.
Continuously enhance flow reliability, scalability, automation capabilities, and turnaround time.
Integrate AI to automate daily tasks and implement AI-driven workflows.
A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience is required.
Possess at least 6 years of hands-on experience in developing and supporting software, automation, or CAD flows and methodologies, with a strong proficiency in Python.
Demonstrate hands-on experience with end-to-end, Python-based, system-level development projects, including the testing of complex systems.
Preferred qualifications include a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience, along with 4+ years of relevant experience in developing and maintaining FE CAD flows, methodologies, automation, or infrastructure software. Experience building dashboards, CAD indicators/metrics, and reporting or analytics solutions is highly desirable. Familiarity with front-end design and verification flows (RTL, DV, DFT, lint, CDC/RDC, IP integration, design handoff/release) and FE CAD infrastructure (build/run/release flows, CI/CD, flow orchestration, design data management, version control) is beneficial. Experience with object-oriented programming, software development practices, and exposure to Azure cloud infrastructure and DevOps are also advantageous. Hands-on experience developing AI-based workflows and automation is a plus. Critical to success are self-motivation, a growth mindset, an ownership mindset, attention to detail, and strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
