Join the Amazon Devices team, renowned for creating iconic consumer electronics like the Kindle, Fire tablets, Fire TV, Amazon Dash, and Amazon Echo. As a Senior Kernel Engineer, you will be instrumental in developing the kernel stack and Board Support Package (BSP) for diverse System-on-Chips (SoCs) featuring custom hardware accelerators. Your work will empower a new generation of Amazon devices by enabling software for industry-standard and bespoke hardware IPs, specifically designed to accelerate machine learning, computer vision, and robotics applications.
This role involves developing and refining BSP components, including bootloaders (TF-A, OP-TEE, SCP, U-Boot), device drivers, kernel modules, and device tree support. You will collaborate with architecture teams to conceptualize and implement cutting-edge silicon features. The position requires hands-on experience with both pre-silicon and post-silicon environments for initial silicon and platform bring-up. Debugging intricate hardware-software interface issues and partnering with cross-functional teams to deliver robust silicon solutions are key aspects of this role. Optimizing OS and kernel performance for supported features and contributing across all product development phases (HVT, EVT, DVT, PVT) are also essential responsibilities.
Candidates should possess over 10 years of professional software development experience, excluding internships, coupled with extensive programming proficiency in at least one language. A strong background in leading the design and architecture of new and existing systems, including experience with design patterns, reliability, and scaling, is essential. Prior experience as a mentor, tech lead, or engineering team leader is required. A deep understanding of ARM v8/v9 architecture profiles, including instruction sets, memory models, and security features, is critical. Proven ability to troubleshoot complex system-level issues on embedded devices, particularly those involving hardware-software integration, is also a must.
