This Senior Platform Engineer role is crucial to our Database Engineering team, focusing on delivering secure, scalable, and highly available database platforms. You will provide technical leadership, drive platform strategy, enhance automation expertise, and ensure operational excellence across our enterprise database ecosystem. This position blends deep database engineering knowledge with modern platform engineering practices, including cloud infrastructure, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, software automation, security, and reliability engineering. Your contributions will be instrumental in modernizing our platforms, establishing engineering standards, boosting operational efficiency, and influencing the strategic direction of Mastercard's database platforms.

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will be instrumental in the design, engineering, implementation, and operational support of enterprise database platforms. Your responsibilities will include establishing and maintaining database engineering standards, governance frameworks, and best practices. You will drive platform engineering initiatives focused on automation, scalability, reliability, security, and enhancing the developer experience. Designing and supporting highly available, resilient, and secure database infrastructure solutions is key. You will develop and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions and integrate database platforms into CI/CD pipelines. Furthermore, you will develop automation for provisioning, deployment, patching, upgrades, monitoring, and recovery, while partnering with various teams to align database services with business and technology objectives. Leading troubleshooting, root cause analysis, performance analysis, capacity planning, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery initiatives will be part of your role. You will also support infrastructure engineering for database services (Oracle/Redis/PostgreSQL) across hybrid and cloud-native environments, enable services for distributed systems and microservices, and evaluate emerging technologies to recommend platform improvements. Ensuring adherence to security requirements, risk controls, and corporate governance standards is paramount. Participation in rotational production support and incident management is also expected.

We are seeking an individual with advanced expertise in Oracle Exadata/RAC/Redis/PostgreSQL database engineering, administration, platform operations, and automation within large-scale enterprise environments. A deep understanding of database architecture, resiliency, performance optimization, security, data governance, and operational best practices is essential. Strong knowledge of platform engineering principles, including cloud infrastructure engineering, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Ansible, Chef or Puppet, CI/CD, and operational reliability, is required. Experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure and modern application platforms with automation at scale is necessary. An understanding of distributed systems management and microservices-based architectures is beneficial. You should have experience establishing engineering standards, operational procedures, and platform governance practices. A demonstrated ability to influence technical direction and contribute to technology strategy and platform modernization efforts is expected. An advanced understanding of the role database platforms play in supporting business capabilities, data governance, security, and regulatory requirements is crucial. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and promote engineering best practices, are vital. The capacity to lead, mentor, and develop engineers while driving technical initiatives and operational excellence is highly valued. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, along with superb collaboration skills to lead cross-functional teams, are necessary. The ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver customer-focused solutions is important. This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
