Join Microsoft's Silicon and Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) team, the driving force behind our expansive Cloud Infrastructure and the "Intelligent Cloud" mission. We architect and deliver essential infrastructure and foundational technologies powering over 200 Microsoft online services globally, including Azure, Office 365, and Xbox Live. We're seeking dedicated engineers to contribute to our growth mindset culture, focused on innovation, efficiency, and delivering trusted experiences worldwide. The Firmware Center of Excellence specifically focuses on next-generation Hardware/Firmware for Azure infrastructure, emphasizing firmware innovation for enhanced security.
This role is ideal for a Software Engineer passionate about System on Chip (SoC) Architecture, data analytics, and developing robust triage policies and dashboards for debugging complex firmware and hardware subsystems. Embrace cutting-edge technology and help shape the future of cloud infrastructure.
Take ownership of SoC (CPU/GPU) and platform data analytics, debugging various domains within server architecture like SoC FWs, BIOS, and BMC. Develop a system-level "big picture" perspective to effectively debug integrated firmware/system software, distinguishing between hardware and software issues based on architectural goals. Collaborate closely with system and firmware architects to define debug requirements, translating them into AI skills, frameworks, and utilities. Apply excellent development, debugging, and troubleshooting skills to become a primary point-of-contact for fleet debug efforts. Engage daily with architects, firmware teams, program management, and component development teams, providing critical feedback for long-term roadmap improvements. Proactively explore and implement novel methods to enhance debug methodologies, problem segregation, and remediation flow efficiency.
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field is required. Possess 6+ years of professional experience in CPU/GPU or system-level development and debugging within embedded systems. Demonstrate 4+ years of programming proficiency in a Linux/Windows environment using C or C++. Exhibit strong problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting capabilities. Experience with platform initialization, Board Support Packages (UEFI/U-Boot), integration, and low-level drivers for peripherals (PCIe, I2C, eMMC, SPI, USB, UARTs) is essential. Familiarity with memory management, scheduling, interrupts, and multi-threading concepts is necessary.
