Join Microsoft's Cloud Hardware and Infrastructure Engineering team, instrumental in powering Microsoft's global cloud infrastructure for over 200 online businesses. We are at the forefront of developing next-generation hardware and firmware for server, silicon, and rack systems. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology and contribute to a mission of empowering every person and organization on the planet to achieve more.
We are seeking a passionate Senior Engineer with a growth mindset, eager to innovate in firmware technology and enhance the security of Azure infrastructure. If you thrive in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and are driven by system-level thinking, deep debugging, and scalable validation, this is the role for you.
As a Senior Firmware Engineer, you will own platform-level firmware integration and validation, encompassing SoC firmware, GPU, BIOS, BMC, and OS interactions. Your responsibilities will include contributing to early silicon bring-up, de-risking firmware releases, debugging customer issues, and continuously improving validation strategies, tooling, and automation.
You will engage in all phases of product development, from pre-silicon to post-silicon and datacenter deployment. Collaborate with architects and development teams to define test plans, validation frameworks, and methodologies for end-to-end feature readiness. You will also architect and define stimulus, test content, and frameworks to ensure comprehensive coverage and efficient debugging of complex hardware/firmware interface issues.
We are looking for candidates with a Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field. A minimum of 8 years of experience in large-scale system design, architecture, development, testing, and performance tuning is required.
Essential skills include strong problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting abilities, coupled with hands-on programming experience in Python, C, or C++. Familiarity with platform initialization, board support packages (UEFI/U-Boot), low-level drivers for peripherals, memory management, scheduling, interrupts, and multithreading is crucial.
Demonstrated experience leading significant initiatives across multiple teams and a passion for improving firmware release efficiency and debugging are highly valued. Candidates must be able to meet specific Microsoft security screening requirements.
