This role is integral to shaping the future of WEX Mobility products, enabling secure and efficient credit issuance for fueling stations and other merchants. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining object-oriented backend services, crafting public REST and internal gRPC APIs. Leading design decisions and driving technical alignment with senior engineers will be key. Your responsibilities will include writing comprehensive automated tests, analyzing system performance to identify bottlenecks and debt, and implementing automation for testing, monitoring, and deployment.

Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define and implement new features. Conduct thorough code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and champion engineering best practices. You will also be responsible for troubleshooting complex issues, authoring root cause analyses, and maintaining critical documentation. Providing live-site support and driving cross-team projects as a technical lead are also vital aspects of this role.

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, coupled with at least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, is required. You should possess a strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and problem-solving. Expertise in designing internet-scale services with a focus on scalability, availability, security, and reliability is essential.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills are a must. Proficiency in backend development, particularly with Java or C#, including frameworks like Spring Boot, and experience building/optimizing RESTful APIs, ODATA, and SQL are expected. A Master's degree and 8 years of experience, along with familiarity with event-driven architecture, Kafka, card payments, cloud-native concepts (Docker, Kubernetes), API security, and PCI DSS compliance, are considered preferred qualifications.
