Job description

Join GE HealthCare as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, shaping the future of medical technology. This role focuses on the comprehensive design, development, validation, and enhancement of mechanical systems for innovative products. Leverage advanced engineering principles to create reliable and manufacturable solutions that meet stringent performance, quality, and cost requirements.

This is an opportunity to collaborate with diverse teams, suppliers, and global partners throughout the product lifecycle. You'll contribute to critical technical decisions and drive continuous improvement, building deep expertise in mechanical engineering, materials science, and manufacturing processes. We seek individuals who can provide technical leadership, champion best practices, and execute complex projects aligned with business goals.

GE HealthCare is dedicated to creating a world where healthcare has no limits. We empower our employees to bring their ideas to life and make a tangible difference in building a healthier world.

Responsibilities

Lead the end-to-end development of mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and systems, from concept through design, testing, and manufacturing release.

Generate and meticulously review engineering drawings, ensuring strict adherence to GD&T, tolerance stack-up, material specifications, and manufacturing standards.

Conduct essential engineering calculations, formulate comprehensive test plans, and lead design verification efforts and technical reviews to guarantee robust product performance and reliability.

Foster effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, suppliers, contractors, and global stakeholders to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

Spearhead the development and integration of manufacturing processes for metal fabrication, castings, injection molding, joining techniques, and surface treatments.

Apply in-depth knowledge of industrial plastics, polymers, and associated design and manufacturing principles to optimize product outcomes and manufacturability.

Engage proactively with customers, technical leaders, and program teams to ensure engineering deliverables align with overarching business and product objectives.

Provide valuable technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering problem-solving capabilities and team growth.

Champion initiatives for standardization, cost reduction, strategic sourcing, and the adoption of common technologies across product lines.

Drive continuous improvement through rigorous root-cause analysis, design optimization, and the implementation of engineering best practices.

Maintain and expand technical acumen in mechanical engineering, materials, manufacturing, and emerging technologies relevant to our industry.

Ensure the timely delivery of engineering milestones, expertly balancing cost, quality, performance, and schedule demands.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is required, complemented by a Master’s degree in Mechanical Design, Tool Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related Mechanical Engineering field.

Possess a minimum of 7 years of practical experience in mechanical design, product development, and execution across the entire product lifecycle.

Demonstrate strong expertise in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance analysis, and tolerance stack-up methodologies for intricate assemblies.

Proven application of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Cost (DFC) principles to enhance product quality, reliability, and manufacturability.

Exhibit a robust track record in developing mechanical designs, performing engineering calculations, creating and reviewing technical drawings, and conducting design verification activities.

Experience leading component and subsystem design activities from initial concept through validation and manufacturing release is essential.

Hands-on experience with sheet metal, plastic part design, and manufacturing processes such as injection molding, casting, machining, and fabrication is required.

Develop a strong understanding of material selection, manufacturing processes, product performance criteria, and reliability considerations.

Experience collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and manufacturing organizations to support product development and resolve issues.

Possess strong problem-solving, analytical, and technical decision-making skills honed in a product development setting.

Desired attributes include strong technical leadership capabilities, self-motivation, adaptability in fast-paced environments, excellent communication, and a passion for innovation and continuous improvement. Experience with Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is preferred.
