Join GE HealthCare, a global leader in medical technology, and contribute to a world where healthcare knows no limits. We seek a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to drive the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and systems for our innovative products. This role demands advanced engineering principles, creative problem-solving, and a commitment to delivering reliable, manufacturable solutions that meet stringent performance, quality, cost, and regulatory standards.
You will collaborate closely with diverse teams, suppliers, and global stakeholders throughout the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept to field support. This is an opportunity to deepen your expertise in mechanical engineering, materials, manufacturing processes, and system-level design, while also providing technical guidance and supporting best practices to achieve business and customer objectives.
Lead the comprehensive development of mechanical components and systems for new products and existing product enhancements. Create, review, and approve detailed engineering drawings, ensuring adherence to GD&T, tolerance stack-up, material selection, and manufacturing best practices.
Perform critical engineering calculations, develop robust test plans, and execute design verification activities. Lead technical design reviews to guarantee product performance and reliability. Effectively partner with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and global stakeholders to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
Drive all stages of the product development lifecycle, including concept, architecture, detailed design, prototyping, testing, documentation, manufacturing introduction, and service support. Spearhead the implementation of manufacturing processes for metal fabrication, castings, injection molding, joining, and surface coatings. Apply expertise in industrial plastics and polymers to optimize product performance and manufacturability.
Engage with customers and technical leaders to align engineering deliverables with business and product goals. Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers, fostering problem-solving and team capability. Identify and implement opportunities for standardization, cost reduction, and technology adoption across product lines.
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering coupled with a Master’s degree in Mechanical Design, Tool Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related Mechanical Engineering field is required. A minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design and product development is essential.
Demonstrate strong expertise in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance analysis, and tolerance stack-up for complex assemblies. Proven experience applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Cost (DFC) principles is crucial.
Possess a proven ability to develop mechanical designs, perform engineering calculations, review technical drawings, and execute design verification. Experience leading component and subsystem design from concept through manufacturing release is expected. Hands-on experience with sheet metal, plastic part design, and manufacturing processes like injection molding, casting, machining, and fabrication is necessary.
Requires a strong understanding of material selection, manufacturing processes, product performance, and reliability. Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and manufacturing organizations is vital. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and technical decision-making skills are key.
