GE Healthcare
Join GE HealthCare, a global leader in medical technology and digital solutions, and contribute to a world where healthcare has no limits. This senior engineering role focuses on designing, developing, and testing embedded software, FPGA, and control system platforms for devices. You'll work on systems that directly manage the real-time functions of physical components like motors and fans, requiring a deep understanding of hardware and software integration.
This position involves module ownership, cross-functional collaboration, and software integration, operating within an Agile and Scrum framework. You will execute standard operational and technical tasks with some autonomy to adapt task sequencing based on changing work situations. Be part of an innovative environment that turns ideas into world-changing realities.
Take the lead in requirements gathering and software design in close collaboration with systems teams. Define work scope, provide initial estimates, and identify necessary resources. Demonstrate proficiency in the Agile software development lifecycle and maintain high code quality through best practices, unit testing, and automated code checks. Provide and receive constructive feedback on designs and development processes.
Develop expertise in product platforms, their components, and inter-component interactions. Drive design reviews, establish clear interfaces between code modules, and apply existing technologies effectively. Optimize application performance through thoughtful design and coding practices. Provide technical leadership, defining and evolving software using the latest technologies in a fast-paced, agile environment.
Collaborate with global teams to ensure consistent and synergistic software development for platforms. Actively contribute to improving established and new platforms. Build robust testing infrastructure to minimize hardware dependency. As a senior team member, resolve complex issues beyond defined frameworks by developing strategies with the team.
A Bachelor's degree in Electronics/Computer Science Engineering or a related field is required, along with a minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in embedded control systems design and development. Strong expertise in C/C++ programming for embedded applications is essential.
Proficiency in developing embedded software for ARM/Xilinx-based SoC microcontrollers and microprocessors is crucial. Candidates should have practical experience with bare-metal programming, Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS), and embedded software debugging, with VxWorks being a preferred skill. A solid understanding of control-system fundamentals, control-loop algorithms, and both open-loop and closed-loop systems is necessary.
Experience with MATLAB/Simulink for control-system modeling, analysis, or development is required. Working knowledge of UML or model-based software design and development concepts is beneficial. Strong expertise in programming languages like Verilog and VHDL is also required, demonstrating a track record of delivering embedded system software solutions.
Familiarity with the software development lifecycle and relevant development tools is expected. Expertise in setting up software development infrastructure, including source control (Git-based tools) and quality control tools (Coverity, etc.), is important. The ability to independently design, develop, integrate, and troubleshoot complex embedded systems is a key requirement.
