Join the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) team and contribute to building and operating massive-scale, distributed cloud services. OCI empowers customers to solve complex, business-critical challenges. Our Infrastructure Delivery Engineering group focuses on developing services and tools to rapidly expand OCI's compute and network capacity.
This role involves managing the end-to-end lifecycle of data centers and their physical assets, enabling efficient scaling and the launch of new regions. We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to design, build, and operate this foundational platform. You will work on highly available, scalable services in a greenfield environment, with significant autonomy to innovate and integrate with existing OCI systems.
As a hands-on engineer, you will tackle challenging distributed-systems problems, prioritize simplicity and customer impact, and ensure production quality. Collaboration with engineers and partner teams is key to delivering reliable services that support OCI's global growth.
Design, implement, test, deploy, and operate services and tools that accelerate OCI's compute and network capacity expansion. Collaborate with engineering and partner teams to deliver reliable, scalable capabilities for the physical asset lifecycle. Investigate and resolve issues across the technology stack to enhance service reliability, performance, and operational readiness. Apply sound distributed-systems and cloud-infrastructure principles to build resilient production services. Develop and maintain essential service telemetry, dashboards, alarms, and runbooks for operational excellence. Participate in on-call rotations and incident response, using operational insights to drive continuous improvements. Contribute to technical designs, architecture discussions, code reviews, and the establishment of engineering standards. Effectively balance speed and quality through iterative delivery and thoughtful prioritization. Work independently on defined problems and provide technical mentorship to junior engineers. Clearly communicate progress, risks, and technical trade-offs, building consensus through data and sound engineering judgment.
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience is required. Possess at least 5 years of professional software development experience, with a minimum of 1 year focused on designing, delivering, or operating scalable, cloud-native distributed systems.
Demonstrate proficiency in at least one high-level programming language, ideally Go and/or Java, along with working knowledge of scripting or automation languages like Python. Experience contributing to products from inception through the entire software development lifecycle is essential.
Understanding of microservice design patterns, service-to-service communication protocols, and methods for building highly reliable services is crucial. Familiarity with service observability, including dashboards, critical service metrics, alarms, and operational health indicators is expected. A strong grasp of computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and programming paradigms, is necessary.
Experience with production operations, safe code deployment practices, on-call rotations, and incident troubleshooting is required. The ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment and communicate technical ideas verbally and in writing through design documents, proposals, architecture diagrams, and presentations is vital.
