Join our dynamic team as a Senior Core Infrastructure Engineer and take ownership of designing, implementing, and optimizing critical components within distributed systems. This role is pivotal in ensuring our systems meet stringent scalability, reliability, and operational demands. You'll drive scoped features from concept to production, rigorously validate performance through testing, and contribute to the resilience of our architecture by reviewing peer implementations.
Leverage cutting-edge data plane platforms and distributed state technologies to manage high-volume data processing, storage, and retrieval. Your expertise will be crucial in building systems designed for failure and recovery, incorporating redundancy, replication, and automatic failover. You will also configure essential resilience patterns like retries and circuit breakers to navigate network variability and dependency issues.
This position involves building essential operational tools, including actionable telemetry, dashboards, and alerts. You'll author runbooks, participate in on-call rotations, and lead incident response and root cause analysis efforts, using operational findings to continuously enhance system reliability. Furthermore, you will develop automation and infrastructure-as-code solutions for efficient troubleshooting and maintenance, while applying robust security measures and adhering to change management, compliance, and documentation standards. You will independently resolve component-level issues and collaborate with senior engineers on complex architectural challenges.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and implementing scalable components for distributed systems, utilizing distributed state management tools. - Optimizing code and systems for large-scale data processing and retrieval. - Implementing and reviewing scalability requirements for assigned components. - Developing fault-tolerant components through redundancy, replication, and automatic failover. - Applying recovery-oriented computing principles to handle service disruptions effectively. - Implementing retry mechanisms, circuit breakers, and timeouts for network resilience. - Configuring tests and alarms to proactively identify and resolve issues. - Drafting and executing runbooks and operational procedures to support recovery efforts. - Building and customizing dashboards, telemetry, and alerting systems. - Designing and implementing functional requirements and testing for assigned features. - Executing fault-injection and brown-out tests to evaluate system correctness. - Implementing standard data replication and synchronization techniques. - Diagnosing, debugging, and resolving issues in system components. - Designing and implementing automation scripts and tooling for operational troubleshooting. - Participating in operational support, incident responses, and root cause investigations. - Applying advanced security measures, including encryption and access controls. - Implementing remediation plans for continuous security improvement. - Ensuring cloud infrastructure compliance and maintaining up-to-date documentation. - Maintaining automation scripts and tools, including Infrastructure as Code (IaC). - Adhering to change management plans for applications.
The ideal candidate possesses:
- A minimum of 5 years of industry experience in commercial or open-source software development. - Strong proficiency in C++, Java, or similar modern programming languages. - Excellent problem-solving abilities and a deep understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems. - Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, including building control plane systems for cloud scale. - Robust systems programming skills, with hands-on experience in multi-threading and concurrency. - A solid foundation in distributed systems concepts, covering consistency, scaling, and failure recovery. - Proven experience with implementation testing, debugging, and documentation within a Linux development environment. - A Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science; a Master's degree is preferred. - An intense curiosity, a willingness to question established norms, and a passion for improving systems.
