Job description

Join our team as a Senior Core Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, and optimize high-performance distributed systems. This role focuses on building scalable, resilient, and operatable components. You will leverage cutting-edge data plane platforms and distributed state tools for efficient data handling, rigorous testing, and peer code reviews.

Your expertise will be crucial in developing fault-tolerant systems with redundancy, replication, and automatic failover. You'll embrace recovery-oriented principles, implementing robust retry mechanisms, circuit breakers, and timeouts to ensure system stability. Proactive issue detection and mitigation through comprehensive testing, alarms, dashboards, and telemetry will be key. Additionally, you will author runbooks and actively participate in incident response and post-mortem analyses.

This position involves implementing standard replication and synchronization techniques, developing automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for streamlined troubleshooting and maintenance. You will also apply advanced security controls, including encryption and access management, while adhering to stringent change, compliance, and documentation standards.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Core Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable distributed system components that support both horizontal and vertical scaling, utilizing distributed state management tools. Optimize code and systems for large-scale data processing and ensure scalability requirements are met, reviewing team members' implementations.

Develop fault-tolerant system components capable of seamless in-service updates through redundancy, replication, and automatic failover. Apply recovery-oriented computing principles to design robust components that effectively handle service disruptions and implement retry mechanisms, circuit breakers, and timeouts to manage network unreliability.

Proactively detect and address issues by implementing tests and alarm configurations. Support failure recovery by creating and executing runbooks and operational procedures. Build and customize dashboards, telemetry systems, and alerting mechanisms for comprehensive component health monitoring.

Design and implement functional requirements and testing for features within existing systems, including fault-injection and brown-out scenarios to evaluate correctness. Implement standard data replication and synchronization techniques for maintaining data integrity and availability.

Diagnose, debug, and resolve system component issues to ensure ongoing operation, implementing strategies to prevent interruptions without requiring maintenance windows. Design and implement automation scripts for troubleshooting operational issues and participate in operational support rotations, including incident response and root cause investigations.

Apply advanced security measures like encryption and access controls in multi-tenant environments. Implement remediation plans for continuous security improvement. Ensure cloud infrastructure compliance with industry standards and regulations, maintaining up-to-date documentation.

Maintain automation scripts and tools, such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC), for cloud infrastructure management. Adhere to change management plans for application patching, updating, and rolling back.

Qualifications

We are seeking candidates with a minimum of 5 years of industry experience in commercial or open-source software development. A strong command of C++, Java, or similar modern programming languages is essential.

Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a profound understanding of Computer Science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems, are required. Experience with cloud infrastructure platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, and building cloud-scale control plane systems is necessary.

Proficiency in systems programming, including multi-threading and concurrency, is a key requirement. A solid grasp of distributed systems concepts, covering consistency, scaling, and failure recovery, is expected. Experience with implementation testing, debugging, and documentation within a Linux development environment is also crucial.

Candidates should possess intense curiosity, a willingness to challenge assumptions, and a genuine passion for creating robust systems. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science is required, with a Master's degree being preferred.
