Job description

Join the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) team and contribute to building and managing massive-scale cloud services. OCI empowers customers to tackle complex, business-critical challenges.

Our Infrastructure Delivery Engineering group is expanding, focusing on services and tools that accelerate OCI's compute and network capacity expansion. We manage the full lifecycle of data centers, from planning and design to operation and decommissioning, ensuring efficient scaling and new region launches.

This is a greenfield opportunity for a talented Senior Software Development Engineer. You will innovate on highly available, scalable services for physical asset management, with significant autonomy while integrating with existing OCI systems. Embrace challenges in distributed systems, prioritize simplicity and customer impact, and take ownership of production quality.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, test, deploy, and operate services and tools to enhance OCI's compute and network capacity. Collaborate with engineers and partner teams to deliver reliable, scalable capabilities for the physical asset lifecycle. Investigate and resolve issues across the stack, improving service reliability, performance, and operational readiness. Apply sound distributed-systems and cloud-infrastructure principles to build resilient production services. Develop and maintain comprehensive service telemetry, dashboards, alarms, and runbooks for operational excellence. Participate in on-call rotations and incident response, leveraging operational learnings for continuous improvement. Contribute to technical designs, architecture discussions, code reviews, and engineering standards. Balance delivery speed and quality through iterative development and thoughtful prioritization. Work independently on defined problems and mentor junior engineers. Communicate progress, risks, and technical trade-offs clearly, building consensus with data and engineering judgment.

Qualifications

A BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience is required. Possess 5+ years of professional software development experience, including over 1 year in designing, delivering, or operating scalable, cloud-native distributed systems. Demonstrate proficiency in one or more high-level programming languages, preferably Go and/or Java, with working knowledge of scripting or automation languages like Python. Experience contributing to products throughout the full software development lifecycle, from inception to deployment. Solid understanding of microservice design patterns, service-to-service communication protocols, and building highly reliable services. Familiarity with service observability, including dashboards, critical service metrics, alarms, and operational health indicators. Strong command of computer science fundamentals such as data structures, algorithms, and programming paradigms. Experience with production operations, safe code deployment practices, on-call rotations, and incident troubleshooting. Ability to thrive in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment. Effective communication of technical ideas verbally and in writing, through design documents, proposals, architecture diagrams, and presentations.

Preferred Qualifications: An MS or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Experience in a fast-paced engineering environment. Proven experience building control-plane or data-plane solutions for cloud-native platforms. Skilled in diagnosing and resolving performance, reliability, or scaling issues in complex distributed environments. Understanding of the physical asset lifecycle within a cloud-scale data center. Familiarity with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) systems or related tools. Experience with Kubernetes and containerized workloads. Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform. Familiarity with modern infrastructure components like service discovery, secret storage, containerization, and software-defined networking.
