We are seeking a skilled Mainframe Application Support Engineer to enhance our Development & Application Maintenance and Support (AMS) team. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining the stability, performance, and integrity of our critical mainframe applications. This role involves handling incidents, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing minor enhancements within a complex COBOL, DB2, and CICS environment.

Key responsibilities include providing Level 2/Level 3 application support and incident management for production mainframe systems. You will perform rapid troubleshooting, manage on-call rotations for 24/7 availability, and conduct root cause analysis to prevent future issues. Additionally, you will analyze, design, and implement code changes in COBOL, optimize DB2 stored procedures and SQL queries, and update CICS online screens. Impact analysis for code changes is essential to ensure system integrity.

Responsibilities also encompass monitoring and managing batch job flows, troubleshooting JCL errors, and managing CICS transaction environments. You will perform DB2 data corrections, monitor DB2 performance, and collaborate with DBAs to resolve database-related issues. This role demands proactive engagement in maintaining and enhancing critical mainframe operations.

Required technical skills include expert-level COBOL (Enterprise COBOL), advanced DB2 knowledge encompassing SQL, bind/plan, complex joins, and performance tuning. Proficiency in CICS for transaction monitoring and screen handling is essential. You must be skilled in JCL and standard IBM utilities (SORT, ICETOOL, IDCAMS). Experience with mainframe debuggers (IBM Debug Tool, XPEDITER) and file management tools (File-AID, File Manager) is required. Familiarity with SCM tools like Endevor or Changeman is also necessary.

We are looking for candidates with 5+ years of mainframe application support experience. While not mandatory, experience in Banking, Insurance, or Retail is highly desirable. An understanding of how mainframe systems interface with cloud/distributed environments via MQ Series or APIs is a plus. Strong analytical thinking, the ability to perform under pressure during outages, and excellent communication skills for technical documentation are vital.
