This role is central to migrating a portfolio of on-premise Java Spring Boot applications, heavily reliant on Apache Kafka, to Amazon Web Services. We are seeking an experienced engineer to lead this complex transformation from assessment and dependency untangling to re-platforming on AWS-managed services. The goal is a seamless cutover with zero data loss, leaving behind a robust, observable, and cost-efficient cloud footprint.

You will own the complete technical migration of multiple Spring Boot services, from initial discovery through to stabilization. This involves close collaboration with the original application development teams and the AWS platform team. Key responsibilities include assessing application architectures, resolving on-premise dependencies, strategically re-platforming to AWS managed services, and executing zero-data-loss cutovers. Ensuring a clean, observable, and cost-effective post-migration environment is paramount.

A minimum of 8 years in backend application development using Java is required, with at least 5 years focused on Spring Boot, Spring Data, and Spring Security. Proven experience with Apache Kafka, including production environments, producers, consumers, topic design, partitioning, consumer groups, schema evolution, and operational aspects, is essential (5+ years). Demonstrable experience delivering production workloads on AWS (3+ years) and a track record of end-to-end migration of on-premise applications and Kafka workloads to AWS are crucial. Proficiency with modern Java features (Java 17/21), Spring Boot 3/Spring Framework 6, and Kafka migration tools like MirrorMaker 2 or MSK Replicator is expected. Strong knowledge of core AWS services (EKS, ECS/Fargate, RDS/Aurora, S3, IAM, MSK, etc.) and hands-on experience with Docker, containerization, and Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK/Terraform) are necessary. Experience building CI/CD pipelines and migrating relational/NoSQL data with AWS DMS is also key. A solid understanding of AWS security best practices and implementing observability solutions is required, alongside strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
